celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the West Cornwall Covered Bridge with a fun creative event for young ,and the young at heart professional artist and those aspiring to be such . Come paint , sculpt ,photograph the famous Bridge . Hand in your artwork by 2:00 at the Cornwall Bridge Pottery , just a block up from the Bridge where we will have also cold water available for the hard working artists and all other necessary info.
An Art Exhibit and Reception will follow from 3:00-6:00pm at the Cornwall Bridge Pottery Store

Family Day: The Civil War Experience

Wondering what to do with the kids (or grandkids) this weekend? Bring them to the Cornwall Green on Saturday for a special Civil War program!

The Cornwall Historical Society's annual Family Day program will be held on the Green at the corner of Pine Street and Bolton Hill Road in Cornwall on Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program will be run by Company F, 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, a living history and preservation organization.
 
The day’s events will include presentations on the camp life of Union soldiers, a military drill and firing demonstration, exhibits of Civil war weapons, and presentations on the role of women and battlefield medicine.

If the weather is good, visitors will be invited to play a game of baseball using 19th-century rules!
 
Children of all ages are welcome to attend the Cornwall Historical Society’s Family Day, which is being held in conjunction with the Society’s current exhibit, Cornwall and the Civil War.

 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

 August 4th                                                                                                                                                                               August4th  There is still time to sign up for Grumbling Gryphons Theater Arts Camp to be held at Cornwall Town Hall for children ages 6– 14. Camp dates are Monday-Friday, August 4th- 8< from 9-2 p.m. with a public performance on Friday, August 8th at 5:00 p.m. Campers will perform The Adventures of Pinocchio, an original script by director Leslie Elias with input from staff and campers.  Leslie Elias is joined by Gryphon actors- Julius Reese who will be teaching Hip-Hop dance, Lindsay DeWinkeeler who will teach drama and Johnny Segalla who will teach puppet making, improvisation and art. Musicians Kathleen Sartor and Giovanni Ciarlo of Sirius Coyote will teach drumming and music.  A special intensive theater class for 10-14 yr. olds will be offered after camp each day in Hip Hop, Shakespeare & Theater Techniques from 2-3 p.m. Both groups will perform on Friday, August 8th at 5:00 p.m. in a Public performance at Cornwall Town Hall followed by Festivities on The Town Green with Matica, Circus Artists who will juggle, stilt walk with troubadours and a strolling giant puppet created by Tim Prentice and Ellen Moon. Arvolyn Hill will perform as a Hula Hoop Dancer as well as teach the art of hula-hoop making and dancing.
