GRUMBLING GRYPHONS, winner of the 2003 Connecticut
Governor’s Arts Award will be celebrating its 30th Birthday on
August 12th at 6:30 p.m. at Cornwall Town Hall. A lively evening is promised for
young and old alike! Matica circus will have jugglers and stilt walkers. Sirius
Coyote Music will perform Going Green Music, Brazilian Capoeira Dancers will
dance & Vanessa Roe of Paprika Music from New York City will sing in Creole
with the children from Grumbling Gryphons Theater Camps.
A performance of La
Sirene: A Haitian Folktale written by Leslie Elias about the reforestation of
Haiti and the mythical spirits who help in this process will be performed by
children attending 2010 Gryphon’s Theater camp. The children come from all over
the Northwest Corner as well as Haitian children from Waterbury. This show was
recently written & performed at The Harvesting Hope Camp in Woodbury, CT. A
twelve person GIANT OIL SPILL will appear and menace marine life. The Haitian
Sea Goddess- La Sirene will spirit it away with the help of the audience! This oil spill was purchased by Leslie
Elias at the 25th Anniversary of Earth Day in New York City while
parading with Grumbling Gryphons as “The Ocean” (60 people in ocean animal
costumes made by Ellen Moon of Cornwall Bridge ) This oil spill has been part of
Grumbling Gryphons’ production of The Ghost Net: An Environmental Musical of the
Sea which has toured nationally for twenty years. The company has been
performing for thirty years.
Mystery guests and
long time Gryphon actors will add merriment and magic! Cake and refreshments
will be served. For the grand finale a three person giant puppet of THE GREEN
MAN made by Tim Prentice and Ellen Moon will summon all to dance and celebrate
on the green! Grumbling Gryphons is
a non-profit organization. Suggested donation is $10.00. Proceeds will benefit
the theater's annual scholarship program; work in inner city schools as well as
helping Haitian children to find care and housing.
