MINUTES OF THE

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CORNWALL BOARD OF SELECTMEN

 

Thursday, January 22, 2004

 

11:00 a.m. - Town Hall

 

PRESENT: First Selectman Gordon Ridgway, Selectman Ken Keskinen, three citizens, one reporter

 

First Selectman Ridgway called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.

 

First Selectman Ridgway made the motion to table Town Hall Renovations until after Budget to accomodate citizens present. Selectman Keskinen seconded. Passed unanimously.

 

BUDGET:  Ms. Janet Gold, Mr. Will Calhoun and Ms. Amy Worthington-Cady came before the board to present the Cornwall Free Library budget request. They presented the history of the library and the increased costs, the use of the facilities and programs by the community and their appreciation of past town support in the budget. The Board and those present discussed all this and the budget and answered questions from the press.

 

The Board discussed the budget of 2003-2004. The board discussed the plows which are wearing out and the costs to repair versus buying new and the life span of plows. The Board discussed where money could come from for purchasing.

 

First Selectman Ridgway made the motion to authorize the highway foreman, Donnie Reid,  to spend up to $4700 to buy a plow to replace the one worn out. Selectman Keskinen seconded passed unanimously.

 

First Selectman Ridgway reported to the board that budget requests are coming in. The Board discussed times to meet.

 

TOWN HALL RENOVATIONS: First Selectman Ridgway reported he had received an estimate from an electrician for upgrading service and installing feeds in the town hall. The Board discussed this and the money left in the renovation budget.

 

First Selectman Ridgway made the motion to authorize up to $2400 to upgrade the service in the town hall as quoted. Selectman Keskinen seconded. Passed unanimously.

 

BILL PAYMENT: First Selectman Ridgway made the motion to adjourn after bills were paid in the TreasurerŐs office. Selectman Keskinen seconded. Passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
