MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CORNWALL BOARD OF SELECTMEN

PRESENT: First Selectman
Gordon Ridgway, Selectman Ken Keskinen, one reporter
First Selectman Ridgway
called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Selectman
Keskinen made the motion to accept the minutes of December 6, 2004 as
presented. First Selectman Ridgway seconded. Passed unanimously.
ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA: None
COMMUNICATIONS: First
Selectman Ridgway wishes a good holiday season for everyone in town and hopes
everyone has a good year and slows down on the snow days having had to respond
to three motor vehicle accidents in one day earlier this week. Best wishes for
good tires and to slow down and enjoy the scenery!
CL&P LIGHT LIST: First
Selectman Ridgway presented to the board for review a list of lights in the
Cornwall Village area. First Selectman Ridgway reported he had driven around
the village and spoken with several people in the village concerning the
lights. The Board reviewed the list, where the lights are located and the
quality of the light, the types of lights - sodium versus mercury. First
Selectman Ridgway updated the board that Nan Frost had sent out a letter to the
lighting district members. Leftover money from the district after the last bill
is paid will go to the town for the lights left on. There is still the option
for individuals to adopt a light if they so choose.
First Selectman Ridgway made
the motion to contact CL&P of the townÕs intention to adopt five lights
around the public areas. Selectman Keskinen seconded. There was discussion.
Motion passed unanimously.
APPOINTMENTS: The Board
discussed appointments. First Selectman Ridgway made the motion to appoint Phil
Hart for a three year term as representative to the Housatonic River
Commission, Priscilla Miller for a six year term as alternate to the Zoning
Board of Appeals, Jamie LaPorta to fulfill the five year term vacated by Heidi
Kearns as alternate to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Selectman Keskinen
seconded. Passed unanimously.
CORNWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL
BUILDING PROJECT: First Selectman Ridgway updated the Board on the projectÕs
progress and the recent opening celebration in the gym. First Selectman Ridgway
will be meeting with the business manager of Region One to review the bills in
preparation of closing out the project financially. First Selectman Ridgway
reported to the Board he will be meeting with the architect and building
committee members to discuss drainage issues at the school during todayÕs
anticipated rain storm.
FIRE ALARM SYSTEM: The Board
received and reviewed two proposals for a fire alarm system in the two office
buildings. Fire code does not require an alarm system in the offices, but the
Board agreed it would be a good idea. There was discussion. First Selectman
Ridgway will send copies of the proposals to the fire marshal for review and
recommendations.
BILL PAYMENT: Bills were paid
in the usual manner with discussion.
