MINUTES OF THE CORNWALL BOARD OF EDUCATION SPECIAL MEETING
HELD ON FRIDAY, JULY 23, 2004 AT 5:00 P.M. AT
CORNWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL

Board members present were:  Barbara Gold, Chairperson; Phil Hart, Wynne Kavanagh, and Jim Terrall.  Becky Hurlburt and Catherine Tatge were absent.  Also present were Kathleen Fitzgibbons, Principal; Patricia Chamberlain, Assistant Superintendent of Schools; Sam Herrick, Region One Business Manager; and one member of the press.

Mrs. Gold called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m.

On a motion by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mrs. Kavanagh, on the recommendation of Ms. Chamberlain, the Board hired Claire Walton at Masters Step 1 for the position of 4th grade teacher for a one-year appointment.

 

On a motion by Mr. Terrall, seconded by Mr. Hart, the following budget transfers were approved, with authorization for Susan Gingert to make adjustments up to $1,000.

Mr. Terrall distributed a spreadsheet with proposed expenditures from the CCS Capital Account in the Town Budget.  Approximately $113,000 has accumulated in that fund, pending coordination of projects with the building project.  Money is already budgeted for roofing, carpet, data wiring, clocks, and painting.  Estimates for laminate repair are pending and the balance of funds will be used for window replacement.

Mr. Terrall said that Casle Corporation is committed to opening the main building (all classrooms) on time.  They will be more certain of the time schedule by the next Building Committee meeting on August 5.

On a motion by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mr. Terrall, Virginia SnowdenĠs resignation from her position as Library/Media Specialist was accepted with regret and thanks for her 17 years of teaching the children of Cornwall.

 

On a motion by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mrs. Kavanagh, the Board went into executive session to discuss AFSCME negotiations.  Dr. Fitzgibbons, Ms. Chamberlain, and Mr. Herrick were invited to attend.

The Board came out of executive session at 6:28 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
