MINUTES OF THE CORNWALL BOARD OF EDUCATION SPECIAL MEETING
HELD ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2004 AT 4:00 P.M. AT
CORNWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL

Board members present were: Barbara Gold, Chairperson; Phil Hart, Becky Hurlburt, Wynne Kavanagh, Catherine Tatge, and Jim Terrall. Also present were Kathleen Fitzgibbons, Principal; and Patricia Chamberlain, Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

Mrs. Gold called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Hart notified the Board of communications from Art Gingert regarding tree pruning and land clearing work on the school grounds over the past few years, and suggested maintenance and improvement procedures. Mr. Hart will continue the dialog with Mr. Gingert and recommended following the suggestions made.

According to Mr. Terrall, school will begin on September 1^st, along with the rest of the Region One schools. A Building Committee meeting will be held August 19^th, and one will most likely be scheduled for the following Thursday, August 26^th. After that meeting, they will know if there must be a delay of the beginning of school, and families and staff will be notified by phone. The Building Inspector and Fire Marshall must be satisfied with all conditions at the school before issuing a Certificate of Occupancy and allowing school to open.

Mrs. Gold read Robert Coppola’s letter of resignation.

On a motion by Mrs. Hurlburt, seconded by Mrs. Kavanagh, the Board accepted the resignation of Robert Coppola from his position as Social Studies teacher.

The Special Meeting adjourned for the purpose of interviewing candidates for the 5^th grade teaching position at 4:18 p.m.

Interviews were completed and the meeting was adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
