Board of Finance
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 17, 2007
Present: Ralph C. Gold, chairman, Sally Hart, Celia Senzer, Tom Bechtle, Anne Ingvertsen, members. No alternates. Gordon Ridgway, first selectman. Barbara Gold, chairman of the Board of Education, and Dr. Fitz, principal of CCS.
The minutes of the April 19 meeting were approved as presented with one correction. In the last sentence of the fourth paragraph, replace “almost half” with “just over half.” The minutes of the special meeting of May 7 and the emergency meeting of May 7 were approved concurrently.
Gordon Ridgway reported that the Legislature has evidently added back about $30,000 of the road improvement funds removed in 2006. A project to repave Pine Street with federal funds is moving ahead. The job will cost $180,000 and 75% will be paid by the federal program.
Gordon also reported that FEMA will assist the town in paying for damage caused by the April 15 storm and will consider supporting projects to mitigate other potential trouble areas in the town.
Barbara Gold said that John LaPorta had called her to suggest the school look into what will happen with the $170,000 or so left over after the building project. Gordon pointed out that the state needs to audit the project before it can be officially over and plans made for the funds.
Barbara said that the BOE had added $7,502 to the education budget in order to accommodate a new kindergarten teacher’s salary and the increase in benefits associated with the new hire. An additional $2,000 has been added to the line for legal costs to cover negotiations with the non-classified staff.
Tom Bechtle moved and Anne Ingvertsen seconded a motion
To recommend to the Town Meeting a FY 2008 budget of $6,036,158.
The VOTE to approve was unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
