Cornwall Energy Task Force
Minutes for June16, 2008, 9 – 10 am.
Meeting attended by Katherine Freygang, Gordon Ridgway, Debbie Bennett
Memorials – The discussion was opened with appreciation for losses this past month by Debbie Bennett, Diane Depuis and Anne Zinsser. We will particularly miss the assurance and inspiration provided by John Zinsser who served so heartily on our committee.
Clean Energy Sign Ons –
Memorial Day Fair Update – More than 40 sheets were handed out that day but only three have been returned. Debbie suggested canvassing the Dump since most who go to the Market have already signed. Katie said she would also canvass other gatherings such as the Beaches, Post Offices and other gatherings. The last 60 sign-ons we need must be registered by the end of the month to qualify for this set of solar panels included in this month’s report. However, the delays presented may also give us a bit of leeway for getting the extra signatures.
Phonathon update: We have not heard from you who took lists home. How is it going?
To bolster our Phonathon effort CCS will be sending a copy of our solicitation letter home with students this week. Thank you Dr. Fitz for coming to the rescue just under the wire.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Solar Panel Installation Update - Bob Wall explained current obstacles in his office and apologizes for the delay since April 2. Katie is working with him to get something usable to the last Board of Ed. Meeting, June 19.
Solar Posters – CCS provided us with about 40 colorful drawings from all ages to be used to announce our Solar Installation Celebration thanks to Diane Depuis and her many talented students. These will be mounted on a larger sheet that will have the date, time, place etc.
CCS Audit Report – This is exceptionally good news. The improvements in lighting can be paid for by CL&P rebates and monthly charges applied such that the expense will be recouped in three years and a subsequent savings of $10,000 per year. Gordon will get the approval to proceed with this proposal by Alliance Energy at the Board of Ed meeting, June 19. Debbie is also going to review audits provided by CL&P for systems other than lighting.
Stakeholders Report – Katie attended a state meeting of CT Innovations participants. They reported that statewide, they have over 18,000 sign-ons and 15 cities or towns. In June they will institute some new community grant incentives, but in the meantime encourage towns to develop their own incentives (like eliminating taxes on hybrids) especially for alternative energy installations.
Publicity – Katie is writing an article for the Lakeville Journal to describe our struggle to get the last batch of sign-ons as well as our success at earning solar arrays for the school. Please contribute other discussions of energy issues for future articles.
Transportation Update – There has not been a full report on this issue. Katie has gotten some state recommendations and interviewed one company. Nora also has focused on one company. A full report is upcoming.
Next Meeting to be announced.
Most communication will be by e-mail due to vacation schedules.
