MINUTES
OF THE CORNWALL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
HELD ON THURSDAY,
NOVEMBER 16, 2006 AT 5:00 P.M. AT
CORNWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL
Board members present were: Barbara Gold, Chairperson; Phil Hart, Irene Hurlburt, and Wynne Kavanagh. Catherine Tatge and Jim Terrall were absent. Others present were Patricia Chamberlain, Superintendent of Schools; Kathleen Fitzgibbons, Principal; and one member of the press.
Mrs. Gold called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
On a motion by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mrs. Kavanagh, the Agenda was accepted as presented.

On a motion by Mrs. Kavanagh, seconded by Mr. Hart, the minutes of the October 19 meeting were approved.
Mr. Hart reported on Region One activities. He distributed October 1 HVRHS enrollment statistics. A Gym Feasibility Study is currently underway. Approximately 15 members met in November with Jim Belter chairing the group. Mrs. Gold suggested that someone from Cornwall be involved.
There was no Board of Finance report.
Mrs. Gold spoke with John LaPorta of the Building Committee recently. The Committee still needs to go before Cornwall Inland Wetlands for final confirmation before the committee can be disbanded.
Ms. Chamberlain – Superintendent’s Report
Will be attending CABE/CAPS meeting tomorrow
A reminder that school Wellness Plans indicated a commitment to develop action plans and evaluate them at the end of the year (recommended using the Healthy School index)

Suggested that Board members read the Strategic School Profile and note any questions to bring up at the December meeting. A reminder that the SSPs are used to indicate areas where school improvement is needed.
Dr. Fitzgibbons – Principal’s Report
The school received a considerable amount of grant money (for infrastructure) through Education Connection that Technology teacher Vicki Nelson applied for last year. The Board appreciates all the work Mrs. Nelson did to bring this about.

On a nomination by Mrs. Kavanagh, seconded by Mrs. Hurlburt, Mr. Hart was unanimously elected as the Region One Representative from Cornwall. The term shall be November 2006 through November 2010.

On a nomination by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mrs. Hurlburt, Mrs. Kavanagh was unanimously elected as the Region One Representative Alternate from Cornwall. The term shall be November 2006 through November 2010.
The 2000 Policy Series – Administration, was distributed for a first reading.
The first budget work session will be held on December 21 at 4:00 p.m., prior to the regular meeting at 5:00 p.m.
Mr. Hart was appointed Board representative for the non-certified contract negotiations coming up in January.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
