MINUTES
OF THE CORNWALL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
HELD ON THURSDAY,
NOVEMBER 15, 2007 AT 5:00 P.M. AT
CORNWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL
Board members present were: Barbara Gold, Chairperson; Phil Hart, Wynne Kavanagh, and Jim Terrall. Irene Hurlburt and Catherine Tatge were absent. Others present were Patricia Chamberlain, Superintendent of Schools; and Kathleen Fitzgibbons, Principal; and Becky Hurlburt and Tom Levine, newly elected Board members.
Mrs. Gold called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m.
New Board members Becky Hurlburt and Tom Levine, who take office on November 20, were welcomed.
On a motion by Mr. Hart, seconded by Mrs. Kavanagh, the Agenda was accepted as presented.

On a motion by Mrs. Kavanagh, seconded by Mr. Terrall, the minutes of the October 18th meeting were approved.
There were no communications to the Board.
Mr. Hart reported that the Region One Board continues to monitor Special Education issues (lawsuits) regarding student placement. The K-8 Athletic Director position will be continued next year. HVRHS enrollment stands at 565. Jonathon Costa has been hired to develop a Central Planning Team to work on a three-phase Region One long-range plan which should be concluded by 2009.
There was no Board of Finance report.
Ms. Chamberlain – Superintendent’s Report
The Housatonic Music Society raised $10,000 with the Annual Kitchen Tour.
The Health Office and administrators are keeping track of MRSA health issues
A CABE conference will be held in Farmington for new Connecticut board members
Orientation for new Region One board members will be November 29 at Central Office.
Dr. Fitzgibbons – Principal’s Report
Coxsackie disease is on the wane at CCS
Two new banners in the CCS gym are in honor of the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, who were undefeated Region One champions!!
Sebastien Lasseur was honored at the Superintendents’ award dinner last night (Stephanie Kearns of Cornwall received the HVRHS honor).
Revised Field Trip Policies were distributed.
Board members will begin working on updating Policy Series 9000 – By-laws
Susan Gingert informed the Board about issues related to becoming a National School Lunch Program sponsor. It was agreed that, at present, the program would be too costly and that Cornwall School would not enter into any agreement.
A Special Meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m. before the December regular meeting, to begin Budget 2008-2009 discussions.
Mr. Terrall commented that all the other Region One schools have all-day Kindergarten programs, and suggested that Board members discuss the possibilities for Cornwall.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
