The Cornwall Child Center is once again offering a fun-filled summer enrichment program for children between the ages of three and six. There will be a group of three and four year olds and a group for five and six year olds. In this way, the staff is able to address the needs of each individual child with stimulating, fun and age-appropriate activities
Naturally rich with mountains, meadows, ponds, streams, woodlands, farms, birds and animals, Cornwall provides wonderful opportunities for outdoor discovery and adventure. Each day of the program is filled with a wide variety of activities such as hikes, games, crafts, songs, stories, creative dramatics, puppetry and enrichment in the arts.
The teachers, carefully selected for their special talents and experience in the areas of early childhood education, strive to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere where your child can learn to appreciate and enjoy the natural surroundings the Cornwall areas offers.

Cornwall Child Center Buildings
The Cornwall Child Center is a nonprofit preschool whose aim is to
provide the best possible early child care program for the children of
Cornwall. Founded in 1974 by parents and senior members of the community,
this collaboration in support of the center continues today in the
make-up of the board and in wide community support.

 The Block Corner
The center is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm weekdays to accomodate the
needs of working parents. The program is geared to nursery school and
prekindergarten age children with an after-school program for children
through the age of eight. Children must be at least 2 years and 9 months
by Sept. 1st to enroll and be toilet trained. A child may enroll any
number of days and hours during the week; however, we encourage nursery
school age children to attend from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Before
enrolling, the director meets with each family to determine what their
expectations are for their child. Our modest tuition fees are on a
sliding scale. The Stephen Frost Scholarship Fund is available for those
in need of financial assistance.
Miss Pam Reading to a Group of Threes and Fours
Pamela Brehm, a graduate of Wheelock College in Mass., has been with us
since 1992. She and her able staff create a nurturing atmosphere that
enables each child to learn through active involvement with each other.
Seasonal projects, field trips, nature walks, music, art, are among the
activities that engage our children. Our aim is to provide an environment
which builds a positive self image and enthusiasm for learning.
The Child Center works closely with the Cornwall Consolidated School.
First graders come to read to the three year olds and most recently, our
children were invited to the kindergarten and first grade celebration of
Thanksgiving.
Enrollment varies from year to year. In 1999-2000, enrollment reached an
all time high of forty nine. This fall, enrollment dropped in all nursery
schools throughout the region; thirty two children were enrolled at our
center as of October 1, 2000.
For the past two years, the Child Center has had a very successful summer
camp led by one of its teachers during the month of July. With a limited
enrollment of eighteen children between the ages of 3 and 8, we have had
a waiting list each summer.
A Tree Created by the Children to Reflect the Seasons
The Center is under the general care and management of a board of fifteen
directors. Each director may serve two three-year terms and then must be
off the board for one year before being elected again. In addition,
parents whose children are attending the Child Center elect a voting
representative eligible to serve a one-year term on the Board.
We welcome visits from members of our community. Please call first to let
us know you are coming.
